For Race Directors

USA Triathlon offers a number of support opportunities for race directors across the country, including sanctioning and USAT event calendar listing. Marketing and partnership opportunities, fluid replacement, low-cost swim caps, signage packages and continuing education in the latest issues and trends for safe and effective event management are also available to sanctioned event directors.

Sanctioning

In 2010, USA Triathlon sanctioned over 3,500 events across the country. USA Triathlon not only sanctions triathlons, but also duathlons, aquathlons, aquabikes, off-road events, winter triathlon, youth races, camps and clinics.

Education

USA Triathlon presents organized educational opportunities for race directors each year. Included in these programs are the Race Director Certification Course and the annual Race Director Symposium. Both of these opportunities allow race directors to network with colleagues from across the country and learn how to put on safe and fun races.

Race Director Toolbox

This section contains a variety of services and resources available for race directors including the USA Triathlon Sponsor information, Best Practices Consultancy, Race Director Newsletters, Race Director Resource Guide, event insurance information, important forms, elite athlete information, USAT Race Director Commission, and other tools necessary for conducting safe and fun multisport events.

Insurance

USAT provides comprehensive insurance coverage to sanctioned events. The coverage provides liability coverage to protect the race director, sponsors, volunteers, officials, and participants. The athlete excess medical coverage protects each participant for the day of the event.

FAQs

The sanction process is entirely web-based, hosted and handled by the USAT website. Event directors familiar with the sanction process will recognize that most of the flow and function of the old "sanction application" becomes the Event Safety Plan. The process will walk the event director through the design of a safety plan specific to their event.
