Shoemaker Runs to Fifth Place at ITU Hy-Vee Elite Cup

Jarrod Shoemaker produced the fastest run of the day to earn a fifth place finish at the ITU Hy-Vee Triathlon Elite Cup in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday.

Shoemaker was among a group of six athletes who ran together for the majority of the run. Canadian Simon Whitfield outkicked the group and just edged Australian Brad Kahlefeldt, German Jan Frodeno, and Kiwi Kris Gemmell. Shoemaker was just four seconds off the top time. Javier Gomez of Spain finished another four seconds behind Shoemaker.

American Matt Reed blasted the bike course with Great Britain's Stuart Hayes to build a large lead heading out onto the run, but faded over the 10k course and finished 20th. Rising stars Kevin Collington and Matt Chrabot finished 13th and 18th, respectively.
