USAT Goes Green

USA Triathlon is committed to hosting environmentally friendly races. Below is a list of initiatives USA Triathlon has implemented in the 2009 Age Group National Championship.

  • Enterprise Rental Keys to Green

    • Customers can pay $1.25 per rental to fund certified offset projects that work to remove CO2 from atmosphere. Ask for this at car pick-up.

    • Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent-A-Car charitable foundation will match customer contributions dollar for dollar up to a total of $1 million.

  • Each athlete will be receiving a reusable back pack filled with race material and not a plastic goodie bag.

  • Event T-shirts are made out of recycled polyester and bamboo produced by Green Layer, USAT official supplier

  • USAT is encouraging sponsors to give an item for the bag and not paper flier or brochure.

  • The event program is printed on recycled paper by DocuMart.

  • PickupPal acts as a ride share program for athletes and we are able to track reduced carbon emissions for travel to the race.

  • Hotel Capstone (host hotel) has a guest re-use program for sheets and towels, only washes full loads of linens, uses environmentally friendly cleaning products and prints all of the in-room materials are printed on partially recycled paper.

  • The portable toliets provided at the event have moved to "green" products and are no longer using the harsh chemicals as in past years

  •  The city of Tuscaloosa will be handling the recycling efforts on site by providing and managing recycling bins for plastic and aluminum.

  • Athletes will receive a reuseable Gatorade squeeze bottle after the race so they can refill it with water instead of taking additional plastic bottles.
